The Kwara Government says it will access all available intervention programmes, aids and capacity trainings that will give the much needed boost to the infrastructural needs and development of agricultural sector of the state.
This is part of its efforts at making the state a reference among the agricultural producing states in the country, the government declared.
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Hajia Maryam Mohammed, said this at an interactive meeting with the Federal Government needs assessment team on the livestock intervention programme in Ilorin.
Mohammed reiterated the state government’s determination to maintain and improve on the established enabling environment in agricultural sector and support all stakeholders in livestock sub-sector in order to unlock its enormous potentials.
“The State Government is eagerly awaiting full participation in other programmes like Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project (L-Press), Agro Processing Productivity Enhancement and Livelihood Improvement Support (APPEALS), Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscape (ACReSAL) among other intervention Programmes,” she said.
The Team Lead, Mr Abdulraheem Onipe, an Asstant Director, Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, explained that the team was in the state to carry out needs assessment on the two sites provided by the state government for the programme located at Lata, Patigi Local Government Area, and Kaiama Cattle Ranch in Kaiama Local Government Area of the state.
Onipe said the federal government is intervening in livestock to scale up its production, enhance the productivity of the pastoralists and improve the livelihood of host communities as well as to minimise conflicts between herders and farmers in the state. (NAN)
