Heirs Energies has launched the Agbada Green Corridor Initiative, a tree-planting and environmental restoration programme designed to promote biodiversity, strengthen climate resilience and support sustainable development in its host communities.
The initiative was unveiled along the Agbada Non-Associated Gas (NAG) Corridor in Omuohia Community, Rivers State, with participation from representatives of the Rivers State Ministry of Environment, the OML 17 Host Communities Development Trust (HCDT), traditional leaders, environmental stakeholders and employees of Heirs Energies.
The project is part of the company’s wider sustainability strategy aimed at demonstrating that responsible energy production and environmental protection can advance together.
Speaking at the launch, Heirs Energies Senior Vice President, Production, Bola Bode, who represented the company’s Chief Executive Officer, Osa Igiehon, said the initiative reflects the company’s commitment to balancing operational growth with environmental responsibility.
“As we continue to grow production and expand our oil and gas business, we recognise that our success is closely linked to the wellbeing of our host communities and the health of the environment in which we operate,” Bode said.
“The Agbada Green Corridor Initiative is one expression of our commitment to responsible operations and sustainable development.”
The tree-planting programme was implemented in partnership with the Rivers State Ministry of Environment and the Self Help and Rural Development Association (SHERDA), with support from the OML 17 HCDT and community stakeholders.
Officials from the Rivers State Ministry of Environment praised the initiative, describing collaboration between government, communities and industry players as essential to achieving long-term environmental protection.
The Agbada Green Corridor Initiative aligns with Heirs Energies’ environmental, social and governance (ESG) priorities, which focus on conservation, community engagement and sustainable value creation.
The company said the programme reinforces its commitment to supporting Nigeria’s energy security goals while preserving ecosystems for future generations.
