LAGOS, Nigeria — Egbin Power Plc has launched the 11th edition of its annual host-community scholarship programme, reinforcing its commitment to education, youth development and long-term human capital investment in communities surrounding its power generation facility.
The 2026 scholarship programme is part of the company’s Personal Corporate Social Responsibility (PCSR) agenda and is designed to provide free, quality education support to high-performing students selected from primary and secondary schools within Egbin Power’s host communities.
The latest edition began with a pre-test exercise that attracted more than 250 students, highlighting sustained interest in the programme and strong participation from communities around the power plant.
Egbin Power expands scholarship programme
Beyond financial and tuition support, Egbin Power said the 2026 programme would introduce a broader range of educational and personal-development activities.
These include an education fair, boot camp, mentorship sessions and playgroup activities designed to improve academic performance while helping participating students develop leadership skills, discipline, confidence and other life competencies.
The company said the expanded programme reflects its belief that community development requires sustained investment in human capital rather than short-term interventions.
The initiative is also aligned with United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4), which promotes inclusive and equitable quality education and lifelong learning opportunities.

Egbin Power Chief Executive Officer, Mokhtar Bounour, said education remains one of the most effective tools for creating sustainable development in host communities.

Parents, teachers and community leaders continue to play an important role in the scholarship programme by supporting participating students and working with Egbin Power to monitor their educational progress.
The company said its wider community-development programme extends beyond education to include interventions in healthcare, youth empowerment, community infrastructure and broader human-capital development.
