Court remands businessman, 35, for defiling 13-year-old girl

I A businessman, Tunde Akeem, 35, was, on Thursday, remanded by an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly defiling a 13-year-old girl.

The Magistrate, Mrs Ejiro Kubeinje, who did not take the defendant’s plea, ordered that he be remanded in Kirikri Correctional Centre.

Kuneinje, however, directed the police to send the case file to the state Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for advice.

She adjourned the case till Sept. 29, for DPP’s advice.

The defendant, who resides at Alakuko, Lagos, is being tried for defilement.

The Prosecution Counsel, ASP Bisi Ogunleye, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on June 16 at his residence.

Ogunleye said that the defendant unlawfully had canal knowledge of the minor.

“He forcefully had sexual intercourse with the girl in his room.

“The victim told her parents what the defendant did to him,” the prosecutor said.

He said that the matter was reported to the police after which the defendant was arrested.

According to him, the offence violates Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the section attracts life imprisonment for defilement. (NAN)
