…12.5 KG ranges between N16,250 and N18,000
Gas scarcity has hit Nigerians with the price of one Kilogram of cooking gas(Liquefied Petroleum Gas,LPG) getting as high as N1, 300 or 1, 400 in some places around Lagos and Ogun State.
The same volume of gas use to be sold for N1,000. A 12.5 kg now cost between N16 and N18,000 as against N13.500 Most of the filling stations that would normally sell the product have ran out of stocks.
This situation is attributed to the face off between Dangote refinery and Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria PENGASSAN last week which resulted in the inability of many vessels that were scheduled to discharge their products at the various port terminals declaring force majeur.
There was no single filling station along Lagos – Ibadan Express way that was selling LPG. Some of them were under lock and key It was however a sorry sight when Business Standards visited an NNPC limited filling station along Mowe – Ofada road in Ogun State and discovered a long queue of people waiting to buy gas. The few places where the commodity is available the price has gone beyond reach.
Many companies that paid for supply could not get last week because of the face off. Industry analysts believe that the situation would be better this week and the price may come down as the event that led to the increase in price has be suspended.
You would recall that PENGASSAN declared total strike against Dangote Refinery for sacking some of its members, a situation industry analysts have warned it would unpleasant consequences on the economy of the nation
