Tragedy: NewsDirect publisher, Samuel Ibiyemi Has Passed On

The Publisher of NewsDirect newspapers, Samuel Ibiyemi has died.

He died of pulmonary embolism on Tuesday afternoon at Babcock University Teaching Hospital, Ilishan Remo, after an excruciating three weeks or more of intensive Medicare.

His distraught wife said her husband passed away despite serious efforts made by relations and friends to save his life.

When Business Standards spoke with the wife, she said she was kept in a room immediately after her husband passed on in order to calm her down.

He died of pulmonary embolism.  A pulmonary embolism (PE) occurs when a blood clot gets stuck in an artery in the lung, blocking blood flow to part of the lung. Blood clots most often start in the legs and travel up through the right side of the heart and into the lungs.

Meanwhile, prominent personalities have started sending messages of condolence to his family.

One of such personality is the governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun. In a condolence message to his family and media colleagues, Ogun State Governor Dapo Abioudun who described his death as shocking.

He described Ibiyemi as a brilliant and versatile journalist who deployed his wealth of experience in the profession to better society.

He said the late publisher was a stickler for the truth, noting that through his medium, he contributed his own quota to the economic and political development of Nigeria.

“He was quick to realise the business aspect of journalism, hence, his foray into publishing. Through NewsDirect, a refreshing newspaper, Dr. Ibiyemi brought to bear his professionalism and business acumen,” said Abiodun.

“His death is a huge loss to his family and the journalism profession. His legacies are immense and indelible.

“We in Ogun State will miss this quintessential and courageous journalist of no mean repute. It is my prayer that God grant him eternal rest.”
