The new management of Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has been threatened by the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association (PENGASSAN) and Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association (NUPENG) who may be up in arm against the Mr. Bayo Ojulari led team should it make any attempt to hire people from outside the company .
According to the two unions in a joint letter with a reference number PEN? NUP. GEC.SEC 04/25/04.2, and dated 4th of April,2025.
The letter was jointly signed Comrade Amaoge Chukwudi, GEC Secretary general, and Comrade Solomon Orieje, Chairman for PENGASSAN, and Comrade Paulosa O Paulosa, GEC SEC, and Baba Kaumi, for NUPENG was addressed to the Chief Human Resources Officer of the company. The letter was received on the same day it was written by the office.
Titled: “Filling of top management positions in NNPC Limited with externally recruited personnel is unacceptable to PENGASSAN and NUPENG”
“We extend a warm congratulations to the new appointed GCEO and board members of NNPC Limited. We wish them success in their new roles and pray for excellence in their assignments.
However, we must draw urgent attention to a matter of serious concern to avert avoidable consequences. Based on past experiences we have observed a recurring trend whenever a new GCEO is appointed externally—the temptation to fill top management positions with external recruitment rather than promoting staff members within the NNPCL”
“As a matter of caution, we must state clearly, we cannot accept, accommodate, or support the recruitment of senior and management staff outside the NNPC Limited and any plan in such direction will be stopped immediately”
“The NNPC Limited is home to a thousand of experienced, competent and dedicated Nigerian professional across various fields. These individuals they claim include their members who have invested quality years to sustain the legacies and are ready to take up higher responsibilities. Denying them, career advancement opportunities and overlooking them in favour of external recruitment, the union stated is grossly unjust and wasteful, and it will also disrupt the company’s steady growth towards greater profitability and efficiency
“We must therefore caution against any unjust action that undermine the career growth of deserving staff members of the company. If this warning is ignored, we cannot guarantee the continuation of industrial harmony within NNPC Limited.”
“Therefore, this letter serves to put the management and Board of NNPC Limited on notice that PENGASSAN) and NUPENG categorically reject any recruitment or appointment of any senior or management staff above SS6 cadre ( specifically within SS5 to M2cadre) from outside organization
Any attempt to do so will be met with strong resistance, including total short down”
