Ikeja Electric Engages More MAP Partners to Accelerate MeteringTHISDAYLIVE

As the National Mass Metering Programme (NMMP), is set to commence the next phase  Ikeja Electric (IE) has contracted six more Meter Asset Providers (MAPs) to accelerate the rollout of prepaid meters under its network.

According to the company, with the six newly contracted MAPs, it now has nine partners, saying that, it was in a firm position to meter all its customers that have registered for meters.

Folake Soetan,  managing director of the company, who disclosed this in Lagos at the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC)’s Customer Complaints Resolution Meeting, however, pleaded with non-metered customers to exercise patience as the phase one NMMP might start before the end of December.

She said 106,000 meters were allocated to Ikeja electric under phase zero of the NMMP,  and that the Disco was able to meter over 99 percent of the customers.

Metering she stated is still ongoing and the company is doing everything to ensure that it accelerates metering of its customers. We have just signed up with six more MAPs, making it a total of nine MAPs.”

NERC had said that 4 million prepaid meters would be distributed in phase one of the NMMP, meaning that distribution companies would have more prepaid meters to distribute in their respective networks than they were allocated in phase zero.

Soetan said Ikeja electric had also strengthened its network by the upgrade of infrastructure, distribution lines and procurement of transformers to ensure stable supply of electricity to customers.

Vice-Chairman of NERC, Dr Musiliu Oseni, in his remarks, noted that the forum was organised to hear complaints from electricity customers within the network and find lasting solutions to them.
