Global Electric Car Sales Continue Their Strong Growth In 2022

Electrifying road transport is one the most important steps to cutting global emissions, and electric cars sales are one of the most encouraging areas of the new global energy economy. Electric car sales doubled last year to a new record of 6.6 million cars, and that growth kept on going in the early month.

According to the annual Global Electric Vehicle Outlook, there are now as many electric cars sold globally each week as were sold in all of 2012. About half of the sales last year were in China, though there was strong growth in Europe and North America as well.

In the short term, the greatest obstacles to continued strong electric vehicle sales are soaring prices for some critical minerals essential for battery manufacturing, as well as supply chain disruptions caused by Russia’s attack on Ukraine and by continued Covid-19 lockdowns in some parts of Chhs of 2022.
