In line with its sustainability agenda, with a strong focus on providing access to digital learning for underprivileged children, Airtel, leading telecommunications network, has flagged-off the Airtel Africa-UNICEF partnership to provide access to digital education to African children. The initiative was introduced recently at Ngei primary school, near Nairobi, Kenya.
This was revealed by Emeka Oparah, Vice President Corporate Communications & CSR, Airtel Africa on his LinkedIn page, while assuring Nigerians to anticipate the same this week.
“That was one of my activities at Ngei Primary School, Langata, Nairobi, Kenya, aside from joining my Airtel Kenya colleagues and the UNICEF team for the flag off of our Access to Education initiative. Nigeria will go live this week.”
According to Oparah, through the access to education initiative, 30 schools went live across Kenya as they were connected to Airtel’s high speed 4G internet. He said, in addition, over 10,000 Kenyan children will also have free access to zero-rated government-approved websites for digital educational courses.
Airtel Africa in 2021 signed a landmark $57m 5-year partnership with UNICEF to provide access to digital education to over 1m children in 13 of its 14 markets across Africa.
