The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of 11 Plc, Adetunji Oyebanji, will retire on March 31, 2026, bringing to a close a distinguished 45-year career in Nigeria’s oil and gas industry.
The development was disclosed in a notice to the investing public dated March 3, 2026, and signed by the Company Secretary of 11 Plc, Chris. Olumayowa Meseko
According to the notice, Oyebanji’s retirement takes effect from March 31, 2026, after more than four decades of dedicated service to the organisation.
“The Board of Directors expresses its profound gratitude to Mr. Oyebanji for his leadership and invaluable contributions to the company and wishes him the best in his future endeavours,” the statement said.
Oyebanji’s journey in the oil and gas sector began in 1980 when he joined Mobil Oil Nigeria Plc as a Marketing Representative Trainee. Over the years, he rose through the ranks, occupying several strategic positions including Planning Associate, Pricing Manager, District Manager, Branch Manager, Manager Services, and Executive Director, Fuels.
He was appointed Chairman and Managing Director of Mobil Oil Nigeria Plc in October 2008 following ExxonMobil’s divestment. Subsequently, he became Managing Director/CEO of 11 Plc in April 2017 after the company’s transition from Mobil Oil Nigeria.
The Board noted that Oyebanji’s career reflects unwavering commitment, passion, and expertise in the oil and gas industry. His appointment as CEO in 2017 marked a significant milestone, during which he steered the company through a period of transformation and growth.
Beyond his corporate role, Oyebanji has played key leadership roles across the Nigerian business community and the oil and gas sector. He currently serves as the President and Chairman of Council of the Chartered Institute of Directors (CIoD) Nigeria.
He is also a past Chairman of the Major Energy Marketers Association of Nigeria (MEMAN) and the Petroleum Downstream Group of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI). In addition, he previously served as a Council member of the Nigerian Institute of Management and the LCCI, and was a board member of the Society for Corporate Governance, Nigeria, for over a decade.
Oyebanji’s professional career also extended beyond Nigeria. He served as a Project Associate at Mobil Oil Corporation’s headquarters in Fairfax, Virginia, United States, and later as Manager, Planning at Mobil Africa Sales Inc.
He also held executive positions at Mobil Oil Cameroon and Mobil Oil Ethiopia before assuming a global leadership role as Manager, Industrial and Wholesale Fuels for Africa and the Middle East, based in Belgium.
The Board commended Oyebanji for his dedication and contributions to the growth of 11 Plc, noting that his legacy would continue to inspire future generations within the organisation.
“The Board thanks Mr. Oyebanji for his tireless efforts and dedication to the company and wishes him a happy and healthy retirement,” the notice added.
