The League of Women Voters of Nigeria Kwara State chapter, a group concerned about linking with National and State government to support women in all its ramifications has canvased improved access for women in elective positions.
Speaking at the Physical Engagement and Capacity Building of Female Position Aspirants in Kwara State; Folashade Aransiola, the chairperson of the group advocated for more women participation in the forthcoming general election in the state and the country at large.
According to her, women as home managers,are efficient in coping with multi- task. Saying, “the League is committed to attract to itself all females of 18 years and above in order to enlighten them of their civic right and duties within the context of the present day of Nigeria and beyond.”
She advised women vying for elective position in the state to educate the public on their social and economic advantage and their roles in nation building as well.
Aransiola who pointed out that it is high time for women to be fully part of and represented in 2023 election, enjoined women to be upright and support themselves and contribute their quota to the development of the country.
Sa’adatu Modibbo-Kawu, the Kwara State commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, declared the government support for the move. ”
Christiana Ayobami -oluwole, ED/ CEO Global Hope for Women and Children Foundation, charged women to change the narrative. Adding that “our voices must be heard. Women are lenient. If voted in to power; women will think of other people to only them, they will think about others. You know we care for ourselves; husband and children.
Oluwole explained that women population is enough for them to attain power and lead. She, however, appealed to governments at all levels to be gender sensitive in political appointments.
The sensitization programme was attended by female politicians, aspirants, as well as female youth intending to join politics in Kwara State.
