A compliance officer with Jaiz Bank Plc has testified in the ongoing alleged N8.7 billion money laundering trial involving former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, providing details of substantial transactions processed through the account of Alkausar Farm, an entity linked to the case.

The witness, Munawwarah Salisu Anas, appeared before the Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday as the fifth prosecution witness in the case against Malami, his wife, Hajia Bashir Asabe, and his son, Abubakar Abdulaziz Malami.

Nigeria’s Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is prosecuting the defendants on a 16-count charge alleging conspiracy, concealment, and laundering of proceeds of unlawful activities totaling approximately N8.71 billion.

Led in evidence by EFCC counsel J.S. Okutepa, SAN, Anas told the court that Jaiz Bank submitted account opening documents and bank statements relating to Alkausar Farm following a request from the anti-corruption agency. The documents were admitted as evidence by Justice Joyce Abdulmalik and marked as Exhibit E Series.

According to the witness, the account recorded several significant transactions, including cash deposits of N1 million and N2.25 million in June 2018 from individuals identified as Hassan Aliyu and Aliyu Mohammed, respectively.

She further testified that on December 7, 2018, the account received multiple transfers from Kalamu Wahid Global Concept, comprising four separate payments of N10 million each and an additional transfer of N8 million.

Court records also showed that N45.5 million was subsequently transferred from the account to Donaliv Global Nigeria Limited on December 18, 2018.

Anas told the court that additional inflows were recorded in July 2020, including two transfers of N26.25 million each from Al-Afiya Energy Limited. She added that the account later transferred N50 million to Sahad Stores Limited and N1 million to Alfagai Jewelry Nigeria Limited.

During cross-examination, the witness stated that Jaiz Bank maintains systems for monitoring suspicious transactions and reports relevant activities to the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU) in line with regulatory requirements.

The case forms part of a broader anti-corruption prosecution by the EFCC involving allegations of financial misconduct and money laundering against the former attorney-general and his co-defendants. The defendants have denied wrongdoing.

Justice Abdulmalik adjourned proceedings until July 17, 2026, for continuation of the trial.
