Tinubu Secures APC Presidential Ticket With 10.9 Million Votes Ahead of 2027 Election

Nigeria’s ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), has formally nominated Bola Ahmed Tinubu as its presidential candidate for the 2027 general election after he won the party’s nationwide direct primary by a wide margin.

The APC presidential primary, conducted across Nigeria on Saturday, saw Tinubu defeat businessman and party member Stanley Osifo of Edo State, according to results announced at the party’s national collation centre in Abuja.

Chairman of the APC Presidential Primaries Election Committee, Pius Anyim, said a total of 12.64 million party members were registered for the exercise, while more than 11 million voters were accredited to participate.

Announcing the final tally at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja, Anyim said Tinubu secured 10,999,162 votes, while Osifo polled 16,503 votes.

“With the highest number of lawful votes cast and having satisfied the requirements of the APC constitution and electoral guidelines, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is hereby declared winner of the presidential primary election and returned as the APC presidential candidate for the 2027 general election,” Anyim stated.

Tinubu later received the APC flag and certificate of return from the party’s National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, in a ceremony attended by senior party leaders, including Vice President Kashim Shettima and First Lady Oluremi Tinubu.

In his acceptance speech, Tinubu thanked party members for what he described as an overwhelming endorsement of his leadership and political direction.

“Thank you all. You changed the landscape, looking at the figures that you returned,” the president said.

The APC primary outcome effectively positions Tinubu as the ruling party’s standard bearer for what is expected to be a closely watched 2027 presidential race in Africa’s largest economy and most populous nation.

Political analysts say the early consolidation of support within the APC could strengthen policy continuity and investor confidence, particularly in sectors tied to energy reform, infrastructure expansion and fiscal restructuring under the current administration. However, opposition parties are expected to intensify coalition talks and campaign mobilisation ahead of the national vote.
