NCC Partners With Sweden’s SWEDFUND to Enhance Mobile Network Services in Nigeria

In a bid to enhance mobile network services across Nigeria, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has entered into a strategic partnership with SWEDFUND, the Swedish government’s investment arm. The collaboration, which marks a significant milestone in Nigeria’s telecommunications sector, was formalized last week through a grant agreement signed by the Executive Vice Chairman/CEO of the NCC, Dr. Aminu Maida, in the presence of the Swedish Ambassador to Nigeria, Annika Hahn-Englund.

The partnership will support the launch of the Crowdsourcing Quality of Experience (QoE) Project, an innovative initiative aimed at improving the quality of mobile network services through real-time user data analysis. By leveraging advanced data analytics, the project will provide insights into the challenges faced by mobile users, including dropped calls, slow internet speeds, and poor network coverage.

Speaking on the significance of the initiative, Dr. Maida emphasized that the project would enable the NCC to make more informed regulatory decisions, ensuring that telecom operators enhance service delivery and expand coverage, particularly in underserved areas. “This initiative will provide us with valuable insights into the actual experiences of mobile users, allowing us to enforce better service quality standards and drive improvements across the industry,” he stated.

For Nigeria’s telecommunications landscape, this initiative represents a major step toward achieving widespread connectivity and improved user satisfaction. If successfully implemented, the Crowdsourcing QoE Project could serve as a model for other African nations looking to enhance their mobile network infrastructure.

With increasing reliance on digital connectivity for economic growth and social development, the NCC’s move to harness data-driven insights underscores its commitment to bridging the digital divide and ensuring a more reliable telecommunications ecosystem for Nigerians.
