President Bola Tinubu has arrived in Lagos after concluding his working vacation in France, with the Presidency saying he is expected to hold strategic meetings with political leaders and associates ahead of the 2027 elections.
Tinubu arrived at the presidential wing of Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, on Tuesday, where Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and other dignitaries received him.
His arrival was confirmed by the Special Assistant to the President on Social Media, Olusegun Dada, who posted on X: “Landing. Welcome home Mr President!”
Tinubu left Abuja on August 30 for the working vacation, spending about a week in London before travelling to Paris.
In a statement on Tuesday, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, said the President had departed Paris for Lagos, where he would spend several days engaging political leaders and associates.
“While in Lagos, President Tinubu will also hold strategic meetings with political leaders and associates over several days in preparation for the 2027 elections,” Onanuga said.
The meetings are expected to add a political dimension to Tinubu’s return, as preparations for the 2027 general elections increasingly take shape.
The Presidency also said Tinubu chose Lagos as his first destination after France to honour the memory of the late Chief MKO Abiola, the presumed winner of the annulled June 12, 1993 presidential election and a major figure in Nigeria’s democratic history.
As part of activities marking Nigeria’s Independence Day on October 1, Tinubu is expected to attend the premiere of a film commemorating Abiola at the Wole Soyinka National Theatre in Iganmu, Lagos.
During his stay in Paris, Tinubu also held a private dinner with French President Emmanuel Macron.
The President’s return comes against the backdrop of preparations for the 2027 elections, with political parties and emerging alliances already positioning themselves for the next electoral cycle.
