President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a minor cabinet reshuffle, appointing Taiwo Oyedele as the new Minister of Finance while nominating Muttaqha Rabe Darma as Minister of Housing and Urban Development.
The shake-up sees the immediate exit of former Finance Minister Wale Edun and Housing Minister Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, both of whom have been directed to hand over to their respective Ministers of State.
The development was disclosed on Tuesday in a statement by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Yomi Odunuga, who cited an official memo issued by the SGF, George Akume.
According to the memo, President Tinubu directed Edun to transfer responsibilities to Oyedele, who previously served as Minister of State for Finance, now elevated to the substantive role. Similarly, Darma has been named minister-designate for the Housing Ministry, pending formal confirmation, while Dangiwa is to hand over to the junior minister in the interim.
The directive mandates that all handover processes be completed by the close of business on Thursday, April 23, 2026.
Akume explained that the changes are part of efforts to strengthen coordination within government and improve policy delivery, particularly in line with the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
He noted that the President exercised his constitutional powers under Sections 147 and 148 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) in approving the reshuffle.
The statement also conveyed the President’s appreciation to the outgoing ministers for their service, wishing them success in their future endeavours. It added that the cabinet review process would remain ongoing as the administration seeks to enhance performance across key sectors.
