The Police in Kano State has arrested the majority leader of the House of Representatives, Alhassan Ado Doguwa, for allegedly being involved in the killing of three people.
Consequently, he has been remanded in prison after a five-count charge including culpable homicide, criminal conspiracy, causing grievous hurt, mischief by fire, and inciting public disturbance.
Doguwa is a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) representing Doguwa/Tudun Wada Federal Constituency of Kano State.
Police authorities on Wednesday confirmed the arrest, stating that Doguwa was apprehended at the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport.
The lawmaker is suspected of leading an attack on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) office in his constituency, which resulted in the death of six people. It was alleged that the INEC official declared Doguwa the election winner at gunpoint.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the State Command, Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, confirmed the arrest to journalists.
“Yes, we have arrested Hon. Alhassan Ado Doguwa, the Majority Leader of the House of Representatives in connection with a murder case. He is currently in our custody, and the investigation is ongoing,” the police spokesman said.
Kiyawa did not provide any further details on the case, but sources revealed that the investigation is focused on Doguwa’s alleged involvement in the attack on the INEC office.
. The police have assured the public that they will leave no stone unturned in doing that.
As the investigation continues, many are keenly watching to see how the case unfolds and the outcome.
Also, in Kano State, another lawmaker representing Dala Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives, Sani Madakin Gini, was arrested by the police for unlawful possession of firearms.
The Kano State Police PPRO, said, “We can confirm that Honourable Sani Madakin Gini has been arrested for unlawful possession of firearms. He is currently in our custody and undergoing investigation.”
He added that the police would not relent in its effort to ensure that the law is upheld and that everyone, irrespective of their status or position, is held accountable for their actions.
As investigations continue, citizens have called on the authorities to ensure that justice is served and that anyone found guilty is brought to book.
