Police Rescue Sister, Twin Sons of Nigeria’s  Former Power Minister Adelabu After Ibadan Kidnap Incident

The Police Command in Oyo State has confirmed the successful rescue of the sister and twin sons of Nigeria’s former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, following a kidnap incident in Ibadan, Oyo State. The News Agency of Nigeria  (NAN) has reported

The victims were reportedly abducted during an attack in the state capital, triggering a coordinated security response involving the police and other relevant agencies.

The rescue operation underscores renewed efforts by Nigerian security authorities to tackle rising concerns over kidnapping and violent crimes affecting communities across the country.

A security source said the victims were recovered safely after operational teams intensified intelligence gathering and tactical interventions. Further details on the circumstances surrounding the rescue operation and whether arrests were made were not immediately disclosed.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that Mrs Adelabu-John Paul, a younger sister to the immediate past Minister of Power, and her twin sons were kidnapped in the early hours of June 3 in Ibadan while conveying the children to school.

Gunmen intercepted her at Elewura area of Challenge in Ibadan and forcefully took her away with the twins.

The abduction sent shockwaves through the family and the wider political community in Oyo State, given Chief Adelabu’s prominence as a former minister and APC governorship hopeful.

The incident comes amid growing public concern over insecurity in parts of Nigeria, where kidnappings targeting individuals, families, students, and business owners have continued to pose challenges for authorities.

Security agencies have in recent months increased surveillance, intelligence-led operations, and joint security actions aimed at disrupting criminal networks and improving public safety.

The rescue of Adelabu’s family members adds to a series of recent security operations across the country, as the Federal Government faces pressure to strengthen protection for citizens and critical institutions.

For businesses and investors, improved security conditions remain a key factor in supporting economic activity, supply chains, and investor confidence, particularly in major commercial centres such as Lagos, Ibadan, and Abuja.
