The North America chapter of the Okun Development Association (ODA-NA) has elected a new executive committee to lead the organization for the next four years, reinforcing diaspora engagement in regional development initiatives in Nigeria.
The elections, held on April 25, 2026, followed a nomination and screening process conducted by an elders committee led by Gloria Iselaiye.
The newly elected leadership team is headed by Adeolu Ireyomi as President, alongside Afolabi Oludoyi as Vice President and Victor Hambolu as General Secretary. Other key officers include Gbenga Adams, Mosunmola Oludemi, and Tomayo Berida.
Returning members of the executive committee include Funmi Bolonduro, Lanre Ejibunu, and Tunde Aribido, ensuring continuity in key administrative roles.
In his remarks, outgoing President Lawrence Akin Adeyemi highlighted the association’s contributions to development projects in Okunland, a region in Kogi State, Nigeria. He cited initiatives such as providing motorcycles to local security groups and donating over 400 desks and chairs to Kogi State University in Kabba.
Adeyemi commended members for their sustained commitment to the development of their homeland and expressed confidence in the incoming leadership’s ability to build on existing achievements.
In his acceptance remarks, Ireyomi pledged to prioritize security and economic development in Okunland while strengthening collaboration between diaspora members and stakeholders in Nigeria. He emphasized the role of diaspora organizations in mobilizing resources, expertise, and investment to support local development.
Why It Matters (Business & Diaspora Insight):
The transition underscores the growing influence of diaspora-led organizations in regional development across Nigeria. Groups like ODA-NA play a critical role in channeling remittances, funding infrastructure projects, and supporting education and security initiatives—areas that remain vital for sustainable economic growth.
