NUPRC Promoting Transparency, Accountability Within O/G industry Through Training Of Energy Reporters

The recently organized workshop for energy reporters covering the oil and gas sector by the Nigerian Upstream Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) was one of the best things to have happened to the industry and the journalists themselves in recent times.  The knowledge of the reporters was re-awakened through the insight they gained on current trends in the oil and gas industry from the resource persons in the course of the workshop. It was indeed a very refreshing event for the old hands and an eye-opener for reporters who are trying to cut their teeth in the reportage of the industry.

The two-day workshop/training, which took place in Lekki, Lagos, was a resounding success, which will no doubt have some potential impacts on both the industry and Energy Reporters:

Enhanced Knowledge and Understanding:

The workshop equipped Energy Reporters with in-depth knowledge of the oil and gas industry, enabling them to provide more informed and nuanced reporting.

With a better understanding of the industry, the National Association of Energy Correspondents (NEAC), an association in which the majority of its members benefited from the workshop, can produce more accurate and insightful stories, contributing to a more informed public discourse.

By engaging with NEAC members, NUPRC is promoting transparency and accountability within the industry, which can lead to better governance and more responsible practices.

Also, the workshop has fostered a stronger relationship between the oil and gas industry and the media, facilitating more effective communication and collaboration.

It has also empowered energy reporters to ask tougher questions and seek more information, leading to more robust and impactful reporting.

The event provided a platform for journalists to connect with industry stakeholders, fostering relationships and facilitating future collaborations.

The NUPRC’s involvement ensured that energy reporters gained a better understanding of the regulatory framework governing the industry.
