Femi Soneye, the Chief Corporate Communications Officer ( CCCO), Nigerian National Petroleum Company, NNPC Limited has resigned his appointment.
The reason for his action is not made known ,but sources within and around the NNPCL told Business Standards that Femi Soneye had to resign because he felt the management of the company was looking for excuse to nail him over matters he did not know anything about.
The sources told Business Standards that what broke the camel ‘s back was the Sahara Reporter’s story which alleged that the Board of NNPCL was going to Kigali, Rwanda for a retreat on charted flight despite the claims by the government that there is no money.
The sources said the management allegedly harassed Soneye with the aim that he would accept that he leaked the story to the newspaper in order to embarrass them.
Before the Rwanda retreat saga, they said there was another issue that has to do with some spendings. When attempt to rope him – in on that one was not successful, they brought up the issue of Rwanda.
The sources said that when he, Femi Soneye Realised that the management was up to something, he told them in clear terms that he was resigning his appointment.
Business Standards called Femi Soneye around 12.04 Saturday and also sent WhatsApp message to hear his own side of the story but he did not respond
However, after the breaking of the story by Business Standards, he sent out a press statement expressing his gratitude to his esteemed colleaques and also telling them he has stepped aside from his role as Chief Corporate Communications Officer of NNPC Ltd

“I extend my heartfelt gratitude to you all for the unwavering support, professionalism, and genuine commitment you’ve shown in helping to shape and amplify the NNPC Ltd story over the past 20 months. Your role in building a vibrant and effective communications presence for our national energy company has been nothing short of invaluable.
I wish to inform you that I have stepped aside from my role as Chief Corporate Communications Officer of NNPC Ltd.
This decision will allow me to devote more time to my family and attend to personal responsibilities that now require my closer presence.
It has been a profound honour to serve both the Company and our country, and to contribute in my own way to the ongoing transformation of NNPC Ltd. I am deeply grateful for the trust reposed in me, the opportunities granted, and the incredible professionals both within and outside the organization with whom I have worked.
I remain a steadfast supporter and ambassador of NNPC Ltd wherever I go. I enjoin you, dear colleagues, to continue your robust, balanced, and constructive reportage in support of the Company’s noble mission and strategic role in Nigeria’s energy future.”
