Nigerians To Pay More To Get Driving Licence And Plates Number

The Federal Government has increased the fees charged for vehicle number plates and driving licence across the country.

 

The agreement for the implementation of the new rates was taken at the board’s 147th meeting in Kaduna on March 25 by the Joint Board Tax (JTB),

 

 

The Board, in a letter dated July 30, 2021, signed by Obomeghfe Nana-Aisha, the board secretary, asked federal and state agencies to implement the new rates.

 

In the new approved rates, the standard private and commercial number is N18,750 against the old rate of N12,500, motorcycle number is N5,000 from N3,000 and fancy number plate is now N200,000 from N80,000.

 

The articulated number plate is now N30,000 from N20,000, while out of series number plates cost N50,000 from the old rate of N40,000, government fancy number plates now cost N20,000 from N15,000.

 

In the driving licence categories, three years expiration licence cost N10,350 from 6,350, this includes bank charges, the one for five years cost N15,450 from 10,450, including bank charges, while motorcycle/tricycle driving licence for three years attracts N5,000 from N3,000 and the one for five years cost N8,000 from N5,000.

 

“You may wish to recall that at the 147th meeting of the Joint Tax Board held in Kaduna, Kaduna state on March 25, 2021, the board approved revised rates for the sale of vehicle number plates and driving licence in line with the recommendations of Appraisal and Technical Committee of the JTB,” the letter reads.

 

 

“In the light of the foregoing, we wish to inform you that the Chairman, JTB, has approved Thursday, August 1, 2021, as the commencement date for the implementation of the new rates.”
