The Lagos State Police Command has launched an investigation after a director of First Bank of Nigeria received a parcel containing live ammunition at his residence in Nigeria’s commercial capital, authorities said.
Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, disclosed the development during a briefing at the command headquarters in Ikeja on Tuesday, outlining recent security operations and ongoing investigations across the state.
According to the police, the incident occurred on May 7, 2026, when a parcel collected by the director’s security guard was delivered to his residence. Upon opening the package, two live rounds of ammunition were discovered.
Fatai said the ammunition was identified as 7.62mm rounds, prompting an immediate police investigation due to the potential security implications of the delivery.
“The matter raised serious concern, and we immediately commenced investigations,” the commissioner said.
Authorities have not disclosed the identity of the bank executive, and no arrests have been made as of the latest update. Police said detectives are pursuing multiple leads to determine the origin of the package and identify those responsible.
The commissioner urged the public to refrain from speculation while the investigation remains active, emphasizing that all available evidence and claims would be thoroughly examined.
Police also clarified that no individual, group, or organization has been linked to the incident at this stage of the inquiry.
The case has drawn attention because it involves a senior executive of First Bank of Nigeria, one of the country’s largest financial institutions. Law enforcement authorities said the investigation would be exhaustive and that anyone found culpable would face prosecution under Nigerian law.
The Lagos State Police Command said further details would be made public as investigations progress.
