Lagos Court Sentences  Baba  Ijesha  To 16  years Jail Term

The Lagos State Domestic Violence and Sexual Offences Court today convicted and sentenced Nollywood actor, Olanrewaju James, popularly known as Baba Ijesha, to 16 years imprisonment for sexually assaulting a 14-year-old minor.

In a judgment that lasted about two hours, the trial judge, Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo pronounced Baba Ijesha guilty of four out of the six counts for which he was charged.

The Nollywood actor was convicted for indecent treatment of a child and sexual assault.

The judge, however, discharged and acquitted him of counts one and six, which were: sexual assault by penetration and attempted sexual assault by penetration.

The court held that the prosecution could not prove those two offenses.

The Nollywood actor was accused of sexually molesting an adopted daughter of his colleague.

He was charged with indecent treatment of a child, defilement of a child, sexual assault by penetration, attempted sexual assault by penetration and sexual assault – which contravene Sections 135, 137, 261, 202, 262 and 263 of the Lagos State Criminal Law 2015.

He pleaded not guilty to the offences. But a video detailing his relationship with the minor, played in court by the prosecution during his trial confirmed he was guilty of the offence.
