International Women’s Day: NCC Reaffirms Commitment to Bridging Nigeria’s Digital Gender Gap
The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has reaffirmed its commitment to empowering women and closing the digital gender gap as part of activities marking International Women’s Day 2026.
In a statement released on March 8, the Commission celebrated the strength, resilience, and achievements of women across Nigeria while emphasizing the importance of expanding digital opportunities for women in the country’s technology ecosystem.
The NCC noted that women play a vital role in driving innovation and growth within Nigeria’s digital economy, stressing the need for sustained efforts to ensure their full participation in the sector.
“Let’s keep bridging the digital divide and empowering women to thrive in a connected world,” the Commission stated, calling for stronger collaboration among stakeholders to promote female inclusion in digital spaces.
The initiative aligns with the Commission’s broader vision under the theme “Empowering Women, Connecting Nigeria,” which focuses on equipping women with the digital tools, skills, and opportunities required to succeed in technology and other sectors of the economy.
The Commission’s message comes amid increasing advocacy for gender parity in Nigeria’s rapidly expanding digital landscape, where women continue to contribute significantly despite existing structural and social barriers.
As the country intensifies efforts to expand internet access and promote digital literacy, the NCC said empowering women through technology remains critical to building an inclusive and sustainable digital economy.
