The screening of the former Minister of State for Labour and Productivity, Festus keyamo, was this afternoon stop abruptly following the request by one of the senators, Darlinghton Nwokocha’s that his screening should be stepped down pending when he can convince the Senators that the National Assembly has the right to invite any person in government for questioning on issues of national interest.
Senator Nwokocha, had raised an order thereby drawing the attention of the Senators to situations in the past where Festus Keyamo had previously refused to honour the invitations of both the Senate and the House of Representatives while he was a minister of State for Labour and Productivity. He subsequently raised a motion that Keyamo’s screening should be suspended. The motion was seconded by another senator.
When the Senate President put it across to the Senators to either support or go against the motion raised, the chamber became rowdy. Following this development, the Senators have to dissolve into the committee of the general house to sort out the issues raised.
The screening is expected to continue after the committee of the general house would have resolved the nagging issues raised by Senator Nwokocha later today
