The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been issued a stark warning against going on another unofficial ‘royal tour’, which comes off the back of their Nigeria trip

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been warned against going on another unofficial royal tour, with an expert claiming it could make them “objects of mockery”.

Earlier this month, the Sussexes took part in a whirlwind 72-hour visit to Nigeria, which came directly after Harry flew from the States back to England for the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games. Meghan then met him at Heathrow before the pair jetted to Nigeria for the three-day royal tour, in all but name.

The couple’s Nigeria trip was to mark the Invictus Games’ anniversary, but it also came shortly after Meghan discovered her Nigerian heritage. While on the trip, she even gushed: “I want to start by saying thank you very much for just how gracious you’ve all been in welcoming my husband and I to this country… my country,” while at an event.

Harry and Meghan partook in a 72-hour whistle-stop tour (

And now there are reports that Harry and Meghan would like to visit another country after their Nigerian tour, “which was undoubtedly a high-profile success”, according to royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams. He went on to add, in an exclusive chat with the Mirror, that “Ghana has been mentioned”.

Mr Fitzwilliams said: “However they would surely need an excuse, their security in Nigeria was provided by the Government and the visit was linked to the Invictus Games, which Nigeria participates in and reportedly is keen to host, but Ghana does not. Nor has Meghan Ghanaian ancestry.”

He then said that “another quasi-royal tour might make the Sussexes objects of mockery”. Adding: “They only lasted less than two years as senior working royals. It was originally thought that they would be ideally suited to tours especially those with Commonwealth links and some of their patronages, bestowed by Queen Elizabeth, reflected this. However they chose to walk away.”

The expert concluded: “Returning on their terms, but without a purpose, would be meaningless.”

This comes as the couple continue to work on their exciting upcoming projects which include two new Netflix shows – one about cookery and gardening and one about polo – and of course Meghan’s new brand American Riviera Orchard, which is due to launch any day.
