OSOGBO, Nigeria — Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party has won re-election as governor of Osun State, securing 511,067 votes in the governorship election held on Saturday, August 15, 2026.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Adeleke the winner during the final collation of results at the Osun State Collation Centre in Osogbo on Sunday morning.
Adeleke defeated his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who polled 444,815 votes.
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate recorded 17,180 votes, while the African Action Congress (AAC) polled 1,458 votes.
INEC said 2,339,544 voters were registered for the election, while 1,010,684 voters were accredited.
The result gives Adeleke a margin of 66,252 votes over Oyebamiji, confirming his return for a second term as governor of the South-West state.
Adeleke Wins 19 of 30 LGAs
Results announced during the collation showed that Adeleke won 19 of Osun State’s 30 local government areas, while Oyebamiji won 11.
Adeleke recorded some of his strongest performances in major population centres, including Osogbo, Ede North, Ede South and Ife East.
In Osogbo, the state capital, Adeleke secured 36,480 votes, compared with 30,474 votes for Oyebamiji.
His margin was significantly wider in Ede North, where he polled 35,427 votes against the APC candidate’s 10,283 votes.
Adeleke also won Ede South with 26,188 votes to Oyebamiji’s 6,219, while he secured 27,085 votes in Iwo against 19,660 for the APC candidate.
Oyebamiji, however, recorded decisive victories in several local government areas, including Irewole, Boripe, Olorunda and Ilesa East.
His strongest performance came in Irewole, where he obtained 29,972 votes, compared with Adeleke’s 10,934.

Atiku Congratulates Adeleke
Former Vice President and African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar has congratulated Adeleke on his re-election.
In a message posted on his X account on Sunday, Atiku said the result reflected the choice of Osun voters at the ballot box.
“I congratulate Governor Ademola Adeleke on his re-election as Governor of Osun State,” Atiku said.
He described the outcome as a demonstration of the will of the people and commended Osun residents for their peaceful participation in the election.
“I commend the people for their passion and peaceful participation. I wish Governor Adeleke continued success as he continues to serve them,” he added.
What Adeleke’s Victory Means
Adeleke’s victory consolidates his political position in Osun ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections and represents a significant setback for the APC in a state where the party had mounted a strong challenge.
The governor’s ability to win 19 of the 30 local government areas, combined with substantial margins in Osogbo and parts of Osun West and Osun East, proved decisive in securing his second term.
The final declaration also ends the uncertainty that followed the close contest between Adeleke and Oyebamiji after Saturday’s voting.
