Honours Engr Ajisafe and ARC Babington “Our Heroes”
The Apostle of Peace Society International, a faith-based organisation dedicated to peacebuilding and conflict reconciliation, has marked its 28th anniversary with the celebration of distinguished members and the conferment of Peace Awards on eminent Nigerians.
The anniversary ceremony, held at St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Ishagatedo, Isolo, Lagos, featured the recognition of two long-serving members as “Our Heroes” in acknowledgement of their exceptional sacrifice, commitment, and contributions to the growth and sustainability of the society.
Those honoured with the “Our Heroes” title are Engineer Paul Duro Ajisafe, former Manager, Gas, at the defunct Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (now Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, NNPCL), and Architect Gbenga Babington. The society said both men had devoted substantial personal resources, time, and expertise to advancing its programmes and strengthening its impact over the years.
In addition, the Apostle of Peace Society conferred its prestigious Peace Award on veteran journalist, Chief Dare Babarinsa, CON; Engineer Samson Okuesa; and legal practitioner, Barrister Kemi Sotuminu, in recognition of their contributions to peace, leadership, and national development.
Engineer Ajisafe, who currently serves as the Global Lead of the society, was described by organisers as an inspirational figure whose leadership and philanthropy have transformed lives. During his tenure as Chapter and National President, he was credited with introducing economic empowerment initiatives, evangelical outreach, and humanitarian programmes that significantly expanded the society’s reach and influence.
The society noted that these initiatives not only strengthened its institutional capacity but also set it apart from similar organisations within the faith-based and humanitarian space.
Architect Babington was also praised for his generosity and compassion, with the society highlighting his consistent support for indigent students, assistance to the less privileged, and commitment to community development.
Speaking at the event, President of Apostle of Peace NG001, Mr. Richard Odeyemi, urged members to remain steadfast in their mission and collective responsibility to grow the organisation’s impact.
“Looking ahead, we must strengthen our spiritual lives, deepen our commitment to the church, support one another, and reach out more intentionally to the community,” Odeyemi said. “Let the Apostle of Peace not only be known by name, but by tangible impact that glorifies God and uplifts humanity.”
The anniversary celebration reaffirmed the society’s long-standing commitment to peace advocacy, faith-based service, and community development as it enters its 29th year.
